This rice is grown in the region of The Camargue, southern France, in a unique marshland area located south of Arles, between the temperate Mediterranean Sea and the two arms of the verdant Rhône River delta, where rice has been growing since the 16th century.
The high natural salt content in the region’s soil has always made growing most crops a challenge, but because rice is able to withstand higher levels of salinity, it proved well-suited to the area.
