In 1990, a small family-owned and operated specialty ingredient store embarked on a journey in the heart of South Melbourne, namely, The Vital Ingredient. This marked the humble beginnings of a business that would come to represent a culinary bridge between continents. This unassuming store, founded by Syd and Susan Weddell - both passionate food enthusiasts - set out to source exquisite ingredients from the far corners of Italy, Spain and France and the bountiful farms throughout Australia. At that time, a simple Sunny Boy ice block could be bought for mere cents, Tiny Teddy’s hit our shelves and soon after, Maggie Beer, Stephanie Alexander and Donna Hay were tempting us with Middle Eastern, Chinese and European flavours to cook at home. It could be said however, that most of Australia still thought Curry was a surname!

Over the years, Melbourne has evolved into a vibrant culinary melting pot, embracing international cuisines with open arms. Terms and Conditions for 25% off Culinary Books and Kitchen Knives Sale

1. Offer: A 25% discount will be applied to the Recommended Retail Price (RRP) on all full-priced items storewide. Prahran and South Melbourne retail stores only.
2. Exclusions: The following items are excluded from the sale:
• Cutlery, including steak knives
• Kitchen Knife accessories
• Knife Blocks and sets
• Opinel Pocket Knives
• Kitchen Shears
3. Discount Applicability: The 25% discount applies only to full-priced items and cannot be combined with discounts on already reduced stock.
4. Already Reduced Stock: Stock that has already been reduced are marked at NETT pricing and no further discounts apply.
5. Duration: This offer is valid for a limited time only and subject to change or cancellation at the discretion of the store without prior notice.
6. Non-Transferable: The discount is non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash or credit.
